Irregular Choice

Admission: I am not exactly known for my subtle choices in footwear, and Irregular Choice is not for the faint of heart. But I believe there is a time and a place for even the most whimsical shoe—shoes like these, for example: The Abigail’s Party bootie is made of floral print leather (yes, you read that right!) and solid-colored leather laced up with matching fabric, and has a velvet lining and a 3.5 inch heel. They’re also available in black and in red, and they’ll run you about $140.

Want something more night time-y? How about this?

The Dance the Night Away is made of red suede with a velvet lining—and look at that heel! It’s only available in red, but let’s be honest: who needs it in another color? The red is fabulous! And according to the reviews they’re ridiculously comfortable. You can dance the night away in these for $140.

Feeling more retro? The Cortesan Floral Bar had contrasting fabrics (polka dots! floral!) with a cluster of flowers on one side of the slightly pointed toe. It’s got a fabric insole and also comes in blue and silver ($120 for blue and red; $140 for the silver). They sort of make me want to throw on a frilly apron and bake cookies for no reason.

I have to throw these in too, since I love them:

The Poetic License Racy Lady has patent leather up the front and on the heel and platform. It laces with satin ribbon. It has a tapestry-looking fabric with butterflies on it. It’s got ruffles along the lace-up and up the back. They’re wonderful! They’re also available in red, and can be yours for just under $130.

This sampling is pretty tame compared to the more outrageous pairs that Irregular Choice offers! Go online and check out shoes like the booties with a patent leather bat spreading its wings over the front of the foot, the weird split bottoms like a traditional Japanese geta, the heel sculpted like a pagoda, or the ones with wings on the heels like Mercury. Enormous flowers, ladybugs, Scottie dogs, Saturn... there are simpler ones as well if you don’t want to go quite this quirky, and some have matching accessories. But why not go quirky every once in awhile? I feel like everyone needs a pair of these fabulous, ridiculous shoes in their closet to be reminded of how joyful shoes can be!

If you’re down by Fabric Row, Bus Stop Boutique carries a selection of Irregular Choice shoes as well.
