Saris for Your Feet

This weekend I went shopping for a sari. Yes, I am a white girl (and how! I’m practically translucent), but I’m attending a wedding in November where my friend the bride and her groom are Indian. In the spirit of the event a friend and I agreed to wear saris. Let me tell you, saris are a dream come true for someone like me: silk, embroidery, beading... go blingy or go home, baby! I swear, I feel like a sparkly superhero with it on. I sort of want to wear it everywhere.

Back to my train of thought! What is the outfit without proper shoes? Even though they share the same elaborate characteristics as saris, Indian shoes are perfect for making an everyday outfit a little special:

These khussa slippers are bright orange open-back flats, with gold thread and small gold sequins—they would be so killer under jeans! I love orange and blue. Yours for $40 from Punjab Embroidered Footwear

I’ll give you a closed back too:
These juttis would be like wearing the sky. Silvery white silk, silver embroidery, and blue beads—just beautiful. Pick them up at Beachcombers for $35.

There are heeled jutti as well:

Elaborate stitching, rhinestones upon rhinestones—ruby slippers for the Bollywood update of The Wizard of Oz! Find them at Punjab Embroidered Footwear for $45.

I’ve noticed many pairs with open work around the toe:

Fierce. These wedding slippers are black with elaborate pink embroidery and jewels, and can be yours for $35 from Punjab Embroidered Footwear.

Want flip flops? Try chappals:

These are made of gold leather (also available in black, brown, silver, blue, and pink) with braiding and pointy leather cutting. And yes, the soles are pink leather. Yours for $46 from Sulbha. Slap on some serious bangles and you’re good to go!
