Why not take one of the beautiful
fall days this week and pop in to one of the Ritz theaters in the city? It’s the Philadelphia Film Festival! Through October 28, the theaters will be full
with wild and wonderful films you won’t see anywhere else. Films like...
Dead
Sushi: The film follows Keiko, a young amateur
sushi chef, living in the shadow of her father, an old master at the craft.
Through his teachings, arcane sushi techniques and rituals are revealed and she
eventually lands a position as sushi chef in a hotel. But when someone adds a
mysterious serum to the sushi supply, the raw fish revolution begins and the food
begins to fight back. Will Keiko’s life be on the chopping block? With plenty
of blood, action, erotica, and laughs, Dead Sushi is a recipe for
entertainment.
Sushi + slippers = comfy and
tasteful! (Ha ha; tasteful.) Look, you can even pick what
kind of sushi you like. (I’ll take the
kind that doesn’t want to eat me, please.)

Brooklyn
Castle: Students at inner-city middle school
I.S. 318 have been expertly trained in chess for the last decade. Their efforts
have collectively won them 26 national titles - more than any other middle
school in the country. Brooklyn Castle
follows five students all passionate about chess for different reasons, ranging
from getting into the best high schools and colleges so that they can support
their families, to combating the effects of ADHD, to dreams of becoming the
first African-American female chess master. In addition to their daily
struggles outside of the classroom, the students face adversity as they, along
with their teachers, find themselves fighting to keep their beloved chess
program alive amidst the school’s looming budget cuts.
I sort of love how the Alondra by Lumiani is not only the
black and white of the chessboard, but the shapes are sort of reminiscent of
chess pieces (especially that little piece sticking up at the heel). If you don’t like these colors, there are
seven other combos in leather or patent leather. How could you possibly pick? Find them at Zappos
for $63.
A
Royal Affair: Despite the intellectual changes
sweeping through the rest of Europe, King Christian VII of Denmark continues to
favor the wealthy and ignore the plight of the poor. Forced to marry the
mentally unstable King, Caroline Mathilde delivers her royal duty of producing
a son, but betrays her husband by falling in love with the royal physician.
Conspiring with Caroline, the physician is able to influence the King into
instating social reforms, but also earns enemies in the aristocracy who become
suspicious of his actions.
These Marie Antoinette-inspired
shoes are just right for the time period of A
Royal Affair! Pale ivory satin
patterned with delicate flowers, a 4.5-inch heel, rhinestone buckle, and sheer
ruffle complete the look. Whole sizes
only; yours from BuyCostumes
for $43.

Sushi shows tomorrow at 9:30 PM or
