Devon Horse Show

If it’s the end of May, it’s time for the Devon Horse Show!  A Main Line tradition for 117 years, the Devon Horse Show is the oldest and largest outdoor multi-breed horse competition in the United States.  It’s got horses, of course, but so much more: shopping, snacks (I am a sucker for tea sandwiches, but the lemon sticks are classic), a carnival, and all kinds of fun events.  Wednesday, for example, was Ladies Day, the highlight of which is the annual hat contest.  The fashion was out in force, and your diligent Shoe Fairy had her eyes out for fantastic footwear.  Nudes, blacks, and straps ruled the day:

This sandal has so many of the things I love for summer: a stacked heel, a raffia platform, even a T-strap up the front.  So versatile! 

These may have been my favorites: the skinny toe strap (which is so in this season) and a nice wedge covered in gold and black lace, and three straps holding the ankle strap to the back of the show.

Sorry I didn’t have a better photo of this pair, but the upper and T-strap were covered in little stones.  Very cool!  (Nice heel, too.)

These were so lovely—look at the delicate gathering around the heel, the T-strap, and the blue toenails too!  Nice touch.

So there you have it: this season’s hottest fashion direct from the feet of the Main Line’s most stylish ladies!

The Devon Horse Show runs through Sunday, and admission starts at $10 for a grounds pass for an adult. Live in the city and don’t have a car? Not a problem! Take the train formerly known as the R5 Paoli/Thorndale line to the Devon stop—the grounds are walking distance from the station. Look for the big Ferris wheel; that’ll point you in the right direction.
