Zombie Prom!

For all, prom was a rite of passage.  For some, you’d only make them go again over their dead bodies.  So I give you... the Zombie Prom!  All the fun of prom (getting dressed up, dancing with your friends) and all the fun of the undead, all in one night.  Just in time for October!

In the spirit, I give you a “host” of zombie shoes.  Iron Fist makes a TON of different kinds:

The Zombie Stomper Platform by Iron Fist has a green zombie print all over the foot, tied up nicely with a sweet little bow at the heel!  (That’s a 4.5-inch heel.  It also has a platform at the peep toe.)  Anybody else get a kick out of the zombie teeth over the toes?  I think it’s kind of hilarious.  Whole sizes only (from 5 to 11); yours for $45 from Punk.com.

The same print is also available in boot form:

The Zombie Stomper Fugg Boot by Iron Fist has our green zombie friend up the front (it’s black around the back), still with the sleek black bow on the side.  Don’t they look cozy?  Available in sizes 6 or 9 from Endless for $50.

How about a pink zombie?

The Gold Digger Flat by Iron Fist has the same kind of face, only in pink!  It’s got the characteristic black bow on the side, accompanied by a little gold tooth charm.  Sizes 6 and 9 on Endless for $35; sizes 7 and 10 at Left Coast Threads for the same.

Iron Fist doesn’t have the corner on the zombie shoe market, of course:

The Zombie by Demonia is high heeled Mary Jane splashed with a bright zombie print.  (It’s on the inside of the shoe, too!)  The buckle is so fancy, isn’t it?  It’s on a 4.5-inch heel and has a small platform under the peep toe.  Find them at ShoeBuy (whole sizes 6 through 12) for $70.

Let’s tone down the colors a bit:

These hand-painted sneakers have eerie black-and-white zombie portraits on them.  (Different portraits on the other shoe!  Even creepier than these, actually.  Eeeee.)    Yours for $115 from Etsy seller HeroesHeadquarters.

Whichever pair you choose, make sure they are comfortable to dance in and/or run from the undead partying hoards in, in case they get hungry!

The Zombie Prom is being held at the Troc tomorrow night—doors open at 8:00 PM.  Tickets are only $11, so grab some friends (try not to eat them on the way there) and dance into the “dead” of night!

Restaurant Week

January: it’s cold, it’s dark... but hey, it’s Restaurant Week!  Go inside and warm up at one of Philly’s hottest restaurants.  There are over 120 restaurants participating—you could do lunch and dinner each day of Restaurant Week and still have missed a hundred places.  Better get eating!

Why not enjoy seared duck breast with truffle parsnip puree, gnocchi with sweet potato, kale, and mushrooms, and warm spiced bread pudding with butter pecan ice cream and cranberry coulis under the pearl chandelier at XIX?

The Pearl Platform Satin Slingback by Nicholas Kirkwood is a vision: a beautiful peach satin peep-toe slingback with a 5.25-inch heel—and a one-inch pearl platform.  Look at that!  Those big pearly beads go all the way around the platform too.  Breathtaking—and it better be, for $995!  Just head to Neiman Marcus to pick up yours.

How about a selection of hors d’oeurves, braised beef and bleu cheese crostini, the risotto of the day, chicken pot pie, and a chocolate milkshake at Time?  (Yes, you get five courses.)
So I’m going a little literally with the idea of a clock with the Tesla-12 by Demonia, but they’re so cool!  Four-inch heels, three gears up the side, a sort of bee medallion on the front, a cute cut-out at the toe... oh, and the liner is printed with gears too.  Nice touch!  There’s a zipper up the inside to let you in.  Whole sizes only; yours for $60 from Shoecup.

Maybe the Mexican chopped salad, winter squash soup, huarache de hongos, and vanilla flan at El Vez?
A little Day of the Dead-inspired!  The Bettie Satin Bow Day of the Dead Platform Heel Shoes by Pinup Couture is patent leather printed with flowers and cheery dancing skeletons with a black satin bow, a 4.5-inch heel, and a one-inch platform.  How I love the spirit of these!  Whole sizes only; find them at RebelGirlz for $63.

Perhaps you’re hungry for chicken and ginger dumplings, Chilean sea bass, and dim sum doughnuts under the peaceful gaze of Buddakan’s iconic golden Buddha?
The Get Down by Dirty Laundry are a beautifully simple gold flat with a delicate bow on the round toe.  And hey, they’re lined in pink!  Also available in black with light pink trim, red with tan trim, and silver—pick up a pair from Zappos for $40.

Wherever you go, eat a fabulous meal, have a fabulous time, and (as always) be your fabulous selves!

Restaurant Week runs through February 3 (though not on the Saturdays).  Hurry up and make your reservations already!  I don’t think you could go wrong, wherever you pick.

Ye Olde Ren Faire Shoes

A special request from Philly Shoe Fairy reader Maria: shoes for the Renaissance Faire! If you’ve never been to the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire, you should go. Even if you don’t go in costume, it’s really a nice day: jousts, music, shopping, magic, comedy, juggling, fire eaters, jesters, pirates, wenches... and the falconer! Oh, how I love the falconer. Plus it’s on the grounds of a lovely winery so they have locally-made wine, and there’s a brewery there as well! The Swashbuckler Brewing Company—I always thought that was the greatest name for a brewery.

But anyway! If you are going in costume, you’ll need shoes. This is one time I will concede that heels are not in your best interest. (The Faire grounds are hilly, and expansive.) Reader Maria starts us off with these:

The Botticelli Lace-Up by MIA has a manmade sole, three-quarter-inch wedge, and really elaborate cutouts. It comes in nude suede (shown), gray suede, black suede, black leather, khaki leather, and natural leather (really a warm brown), so whatever your faire outfit, you’ll find a pair to match! Find them on Amazon for between $24 and $60. (Be sure to get a half size down! They run big.)

You know what’s popular for Renaissance Faires? Mary Janes! The Sassy 09 by Demonia Shoes are black velvet with a surprising amount of arch support. (Good for walking all day!) I found them around the internet in burgundy and purple as well, but you can get the black most cheaply from Babygirl Boutique for $16.

How about boots? These ankle boots are made of microfiber (so soft!) and have a rubber sole. Find them at The Tudor Shoppe for $35.

Maybe sandals: Teal! Whee! The Hera Sandals also come in purple, black, and tan, and can be yours for $59 from Renboots.

Whatever you wear, have a good time! (And PS, this weekend is Heroes of the Realm Weekend—active military, reserve, police, firefighters, emergency medical technicians, and members of veteran organizations and their immediate families get a special admission price.)
