Happy Thanksgiving!

This Thursday is Thanksgiving, a day where we contemplate the good fortune we had in the previous year and give thanks.

Oh, who are we kidding?  It’s about the food.  Even the very first Thanksgiving was all about the food (…which prevented the Pilgrims from starving, for which they were thankful.  It all cycles around).

But what will be on every table this year?  Pillsbury did a survey on what people are planning to serve on Thursday.  Here I give you the top 5!

#5: 63% of people will serve corn.

The Burlesque by Mojo Moxy is tall like the stalk, yellow like the kernels, and has lots of dangling bits like that stupid silk that always gets stuck all over the ear…but my shucking inadequacies aside, this is a really fun boot!  The shaft is a foot high, the heel is five inches, and there’s a hidden 1.5-inch platform.  Find them at Heels.com for $185.

#4: 70% will serve green beans (probably in a casserole).

I’m not really a fan of green bean casserole, if I’m honest, but I am a fan of the Panto by Nine West!  This fall’s must-have smoking slipper, but in green suede with an embroidered golden crest at the toe.  Also available in pink, orange, or blue suede, or brown or wine snakeskin—find them all at 6pm for $52.

#3: 75% will have some kind of bread.

The quilted front of the Ryane by Rocket Dog sort of looks like slices of bread in a row, doesn’t it?  Cushy!  I’m sort of digging the outside zipper as well.  The hidden wedge is three inches high—just high enough.  Yours for $75 at Macy’s.

#2: 76% will serve pumpkin pie.

Mmm, pumpkin pie.  The Ball-A by Kenneth Cole Reaction has the orange of the filling (in suede) and the brown of the crust (in leather—plus look at the detailing! nice).  It’s got a short stacked wedge (just a half-inch) and some elastic around the collar.  Also available in black or blue; your choice for $69 at Zappos.

#1: Turkey, of course!  92% will serve turkey.

The Teri by Bucco is very reminiscent of a turkey!  The dark brown, the mottled coloring, just a hint of orange (like the wattle), and the feathers, of course!  However, I would not recommend eating these.  (Though who knows?  Cook anything long enough…)  The woven wedge is five inches high, and the platform is 1.25 inches.  Yours for $25 from Buckle.

No matter what’s on your table on Thursday, dig in!  (You’ll need your strength for Black Friday. J )

May Flowers

The saying goes “April showers bring May flowers,” but we seem to have gotten a whole lotta rain recently, haven’t we?  It’s a little depressing out there.

But we can still have May flowers!  Here’s a bouquet to brighten your Tuesday:

This purple beauty is the Splish Splash.  It’s a faux suede, round-toe Mary Jane with a 3.75-inch heel, and a profusion of flowers on the side!  Look at them all!  Purple, blue, red, yellow… you’ll bring a garden with you wherever you step.  Yours from Irregular Choice for $135.

The Rosey Wedge by Diba is so sharp looking, with its bold red, yellow, and green print.  And with a five-inch wedge and 1.5-inch platform, that’s a big canvas to show it off!  Find them on DSW for $40.

Aww, daisies!  The Jazzin by Rocket Dog is a sneaker with personality: a textile upper patterned with cheery daisies, yellow and black touches on the rubber sole, a stripy tongue, and white laces. Also available in a bunch of other prints; your choice for $45 on Zappos.

The Keku is spring embodied: a raffia wedge (five inches), a bright floral print on the straps and one-inch platform, and a frilly pink flower at the toe!  Also available in a lavender with a black wedge, but the black feels awfully heavy.  Either way, it can be yours for $60 from Nine West.

I hope these will put a spring (ha!) in your step, rain or no!

May Flowers

I know the saying is “April showers bring May flowers,” but we had it a bit backward this year: not a lick of rain and plenty of flowers in April; drizzly skies and flowering plants that have already gone into full-green mode in May.  A bit depressing!

But never you fear!  Here’s a bouquet of spring flowers for you:

The Lifetime by CL by Laundry is like a spring garden!  Pink, yellow, blue, and orange flowers fill the body and 3.25-inch heel, and there’s pink piping around the foot opening and a little bow at the toe.  Adorable.  Also available in a black and white floral print/polka dot combo; find them at DSW for $40.

What a sweet little wedge!  The Tonic by Rocket Dog has an all-over... what are they, tulips?  I’ll say tulips.  A round toe, woven 1.25-inch wedge, and fold detailing at the front complete the look.  Available in two other prints and a solid black as well; yours from Zappos for $50.

How cool are these?  The Brander by Report is like looking into a tropical garden through the wooden blinds over the windows in your home in Hawaii.  (Mental vacation break!.... Aaaaand, we’re back.)  They have a six-inch stacked heel—I know!  That’s tall.  Fortunately, there’s a 1.5-inch platform to help you out.  And you should be on the veranda drinking piña coladas anyway, not walking anywhere.  Yours for $195 from Macy’s.

The Devon by Alice + Olivia is a classic pointed-toe pump in a cheery red, yellow, and purple floral print (that’s printed leather, people!).  It has a 4.25-inch heel, leather lining and sole, and padded insole, and can be yours for $295 at Saks.

And, well, since it is raining:

These rain boots by Journee are a rosy way to get you through a rainy day!  Pink, yellow, and red roses adorn the foot-high shaft (with a 13-inch circumference).  Find them at Target for $33.

Whatever the forecast, you’ll always have a little spring to wear!

Ode to Moms

In honor of Mother’s Day, I present this ode to moms.

Moms make you blueberry pancakes when you’re sick because they know they’re your favorite.

The Monica by Rocket Dog is perfect for the mom on the go—a nice round-toe flat with pintucking around the toe.  I love the navy, but it also comes in pink, black, and gray—find them at DSW for $35.

When you decided neon green was your favorite color, Moms still help you paint your room, and tell you how awesome it looks.

The Bandit by Kate Spade New York is a cork wedge with lime green (or bright pink) patent leather detailing.  It has a 3.25-inch wedge and a 1.5-inch platform, and can be found at Zappos Couture for $146.

Somehow, Moms putting the Band-Aid on you makes you better faster.

The Versie by Mossimo Black is a nude, almond-toe patent leather pump with a 3.75-inch heel and half-inch platform.  So classic!  Find them at Target for $30.

Moms know that strawberry daiquiris and a shoulder to cry on can make even the biggest problem seem smaller.

The Jules by CeCe L’Amour are covered in strawberries!  Strawberries on the pink polka dot fabric; rhinestone strawberries at the toe.  It has a 4.5-inch stacked heel and a one-inch platform (love the contrasting touch of green there!).  Also available in black or blue; “pick” yours (ha!) from Endless for $150.

Moms are love.

The Lady DragonVII Slingback Sandal by Vivienne Westwood by Melissa (that’s a mouthful) is an orange rubber peep-toe slingback with a gold heart at the toe—because moms have hearts of gold!  Available in two other cool combos (pink with a red heart, and blue with a purple heart); find them on Amazon for $95 (well, the orange ones anyway).

Happy Mother’s Day, moms!  (And happy Mother’s Day, Mom.)

Fall Trend: Stacked Heels

Stilettos always have a place in a shoe wardrobe—but not this season! This fall the heel silhouette pendulum is swinging firmly to the chunky side, so be sure to stock up on stack heels. And hey, you get a little extra stability mixed with your fashion. I love these—so mod and so classic at the same time! The Walden by Rocket Dog has a four-inch heel and an upper totally covered in black and white houndstooth—not to mention the knit flower detail! Perfect. Find them at Macy’s for just over $63.

Let’s brighten things up a bit:
The Haiku is a suede peep-toe pump with a five-inch heel and 1.25-inch platform in a serious blue! Also available in black; find them at Steve Madden for about $91.

How about something a little menswear-inspired? The Levity by Nicolo is a kiltie pump in nice taupe (or black) patent leather, with a four-inch heel. They’re just under $75 and available at DSW.

Let’s open things up a bit: The Jeb by BCBGMAXAZRIA are super-strappy burgundy suede sandals with a four-inch heel and a half-inch platform. Order yours from Zappos for $250.

How about ruffles? The Jemma by Dream Out Loud by Selena Gomez have three ruffles around its 2.25-inch heel and a nice strap and buckle across the front. (And round-toe boots are always so cute!) Find them at Kmart for $35.

You know what this post is lacking? Sequins. More sequins!

The Delly is just covered in black sequins! Fabulous. It also has a 3.5-inch heel, three-quarter-inch hidden platform, and is available up to a size 12! Yours for $119 from Nine West.
