Restaurant Week

The only thing better than delicious food is getting delicious food for a deal.  Fortunately, it’s Restaurant Week!  Almost 125 restaurants are offering three-course dinners for $35 (or lunch for $20!) between now and September 27.

Oh, and the only thing better than getting delicious food for a deal is wearing awesome shoes when you go.  How about shoes inspired by some of the restaurants?  Let’s start off with some cornbread, yellow tomato gazpacho, pork belly with wax bean and green tomato, and malted milk custard from Pumpkin BYOB.

The Tricky Wedge Sandal by Charles by Charles David is such a lovely shoe: a woven 4.25-inch wedge and one-inch platform topped by straps of orange patent leather.  Almost like pumpkins in a basket, wouldn’t you say?  Also available in navy, nude, and black; your choice for $60 from DSW.

Or perhaps you’re in the mood for horiatiki salad, keftedes, leg of lamb with mint pistachio pesto, and loukoumades at Opa:

The Emera by Vince Camuto is very evocative of the Greek isles, what with its suede and leather upper studded with round and rectangular rhinestones.  It zips up the back to let you in, and is also available in black, aqua, and an especially lovely violet.  Yours for $66 from Nordstrom.

Maybe head to Oyster House, and enjoy four oysters on the half shell, clams casino, sautéed flounder, and s’mores:

The Pearl Pointy Pump by Alexander McQueen is a red suede pump with a pointed toe, 3.75-inch heel with a plate of gold around the back of the heel—studded with pearls!  Pearls, you know, from oysters.  Well, not these, not really.  But for $1095 from Zappos, I suppose there was always the possibility…

So come hungry and enjoy the next two weeks!

Restaurant Week runs from now through September 27, but not Saturday, September 21.  Make your reservations today!

Purrfect!

At my belly dance class last week, we all oohed and aahed at the little leopard print Mary Janes on the feet of our teacher’s daughter.  Little patent bows at the round toe... we all lamented that they didn’t come in grown-up sizes.  Was that going to stop us?  No!  Here’s a selection of leopard flats just for you, ladies!

Perfect!  The Beccerat is a shiny leopard flat trimmed with black patent leather around the foot, and a sweet little bow at the round toe.  Also available in black lace or brown or black nubuck; find them at Aerosoles for $69.

The Lizzie by Me Too is so expensive-looking: a leopard upper, with leather detailing at the heel, and more leather and gold chains at the toe.  Beautiful.  Also available in a sort of black snaky fabric with silver chains; your choice for $55 from DSW.

Okay, so the Model by Franco Sarto is a wedge and not a flat, but it’s a little wedge!  It has a 1.25-inch heel, peep-toe, and a sweet little bow on the front.  Also available in zebra, or black, red, navy solid—find yours at Endless for $79.

The Eavan by Steven by Steve Madden may be my favorite: a pointy leopard-print upper, and look at the feature at the heel!  That’s a black leather buckle covered in gold studs.  Love.  Yours for $129 from Bloomingdale’s.

The Ansley by Giani Bernini is so perfect for everyday: a leopard-print body with leather color-blocking at the toe and heel, statement stitching, and a little bow at the round toe.  Sweet!  Also available in red or black snake; find them at Macy’s for $60.

Sparkles!  Yay!  The Flora by Vince Camuto has a leopard print upper, round toe, and rhinestone-encrusted flower.  There are two leather options as well: black or “overcast” (a grayish-blue), and can be yours from Zappos for $88.

Who says the little girls have to have all the fun?  Enjoy, ladies!

Veterans Day

If you still have to go to work today you may forget that it’s Veterans Day, but it is! A day to honor all of our veterans who have kept and continue to keep us safe. I thought I would honor them the best way I know: shoes.

Over hill, over dale, we have hit the dusty trail, and the Caissons go rolling along. In and out, hear them shout, counter marching and right about, and those Caissons go rolling along. For it’s hi! hi! hee! In the field artillery, count out your numbers loud and strong (two three four, hut two three). And where e’er you go, you will always know that the Caissons go rolling along.

If you’re army, how about the Green Camo Boot by Ellie? A 4.5-inch heel, lace-up front, and pointed faux leather toe... this boot kicks ass and takes names. Like the Army. Yours for just under $62 from Beston.

Anchors aweigh, my boys, anchors aweigh! Farewell to foreign shores, we sail at break of day (‘ay, ‘ay, ‘ay). O’er our last night ashore, drink to the foam until we meet once more. Here’s wishing you a happy voyage home! If the Navy is more your thing, the Anchor by Ellie is for you! An adorable peep-toe pump with a five-inch heel, bow on the toe, and anchor on the heel... and don’t you just love the polka dots on the inside? Pick them up from Shoebuy.com for $72.

Off we go into the wild blue yonder, climbing high into the sun; here they come zooming to meet our thunder, at ‘em boys, give ‘er the gun! (Give ‘er the gun!) Down we dive, spouting our flame from under, off with one helluva roar! We live in fame or go down in flame. Hey! Nothing’ll stop the U.S. Air Force! I sort of love the Wing Invader by Irregular Choice for the Air Force: not only the wings on the heel, but the snarling face on the front reminds me of those shark faces painted on the noses of WWII aircraft. These fierce beauties can be yours for $127 from Wayfair.

From the halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli, we fight our country’s battles in the air, on land, and sea. First to fight for right and freedom and to keep our honor clean: we are proud to claim the title of United States Marine. Nothing’s tougher than a Marine; you’d be hard-pressed to find a tougher heel than the Jamma by Vince Camuto. A thick 4.75-inch heel with spikes up the back, rockin’ snakeskin, a hidden 1.25-inch platform—oh, and a bow with spikes on it. Yours for $139 from Zappos.

We’re always ready for the call; we place our trust in Thee. Through surf and storm and howling gale, high shall our purpose be. “Semper Paratus” is our guide, our fame, our glory, too. To fight to save or fight and die! Aye! Coast Guard, we are for you.

All the straps on the Politic by Qupid remind me of the harnesses on helicopter rescue suits and diving suits—perfect for the Coast Guard. Plus they’re the blue of the ocean! (Though they also come in purple.) A four-inch heel, a zipper up the back... this is a beautiful boot, and a pair can be yours for $45 from DSW.

But seriously, thank you to all our veterans. A special thank you to my grandfathers (Papa Jim, army; Grandpa Chuck, Coast Guard; Grandpa Charles, army). You are a special generation, and I thank you for your selfless service.
