Beware of the Blob, it creeps
And leaps and glides and slides
Across the floor;
Right through the door
And all around the wall;
A splotch, a blotch...
Be careful of the Blob!
Yes, The Blob may be the least scary horror movie ever made, but it was filmed right in our backyard! There are sites still standing in Phoenixville where in 1958 people were eaten alive by the red gelatinous monster we call the Blob. In honor of its awesome badness, the Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville has been holding Blobfest for more than a decade. Old sci-fi films in double features, a short-film contest, a street fair—the Colonial takes The Blob quite seriously!
There’s also the traditional “running out,” where people run screaming from the Colonial, re-enacting one of the most famous scenes from the movie. If you’re lucky enough to have tickets already to this Friday's running out (they’re sold out!), be sure to make an entrance in some 50s-appropriate footwear. Stilettos, peep toes, slingbacks, and thingies on the toe were all popular in the late 50s. (Don’t even think about saddle shoes! Those were for the kiddies.) How about these?

Feeling like a mischievous 50s girl? Leopard it is!

We need at least one red pair, since the Blob is red. May I recommend these?

And one with polka dots for good measure:

So go, have a good time, scream your head off, and beware of the Blob!
