Chinese New Year

This Sunday is Chinese New Year!  We say farewell to the Year of the Dragon and welcome the Year of the Snake.  A little about the Snake: it is the most enigmatic, intuitive, introspective, refined, and collected of the Chinese Zodiac signs.  The year is meant for steady progress and attention to detail.

Oh, but not only is it the Year of the Snake, technically it’s the Year of the Black Water Snake, which you have to admit sounds way cooler.  In honor of the New Year, here are a selection of shoes—in black snake, of course!

So pretty!  The Daena by Isolá is a classic heeled sandal, with three straps of black snake across the toe and topped with an impeccable bow.  The 4.75-inch heel is snake too, as well as the one-inch platform.  Yours for $120 from Nordstrom.

There’s a snake on my boot!  The Sanguine by Madden Girl is a classic Western boot with an eleven-inch snakeskin shaft decorated with embroidery.  The faux leather at the toe and the details at the top are solid black.  (Or brown; it comes in brown too.)  A 1.5-inch heel completes the look!  Find them at DSW for $60.

Rockin’!  The Slither by Dollhouse is one sexy bootie: a snakeskin upper, solid black 4.75-inch heel, 1.5-inch faux suede platform under the peep toe, and more suede trim at the ankle, topped with little spikes.  Awesome.  Also available in red (which might be a little much, even for me) and a lovely cream color; your choice for about $30 on Amazon.

Business in Beantown

So I’m away on business for a few days in Boston, but you’re still in my thoughts, Deputy Shoe Fairies!  In fact, I’m sending a little Boston your way.

Lobster:

The Lobster Print Slip On by TOMS are lobstertastic!  Look at all those little lobsters.  It’s got the signature pleated toe and the TOMS label on the back—slip into a pair at Neiman Marcus for $95.

The green monster:

The Specialty Seasonal Ox by Converse Chuck Taylor All Star is a bright, bubbly green!  (Or blue.  Or red.  Or navy.   Or gray, nude, dark green, orchid, or cinnabar.)  They have a canvas outer, cushy insole, and classic cool to spare.  Find them at Zappos for $50.

And American history:

The Koni by Dollhouse is a sweet little slice of Americana: red and white stripes, a blue toe cap with bow... and look at the polka dots on the inside!  Like stars.  Also available in a coral stripe with a yellow toe cap and a blue stripe with a salmon toe cap, but whichever you choose you can find it at DSW for $22.

Fall Trend: Buckles

One last fall trend, and it’s one you may have already noticed in some of my other recent posts: buckles! There are buckles on everything this fall—and I mean everything. In fact, there are multiple buckles on everything. Yay buckles! (Can you tell I totally dig this trend?) Bring on the buckles, baby!!!

  How interesting are these? Laces and buckles! The Anjel WP is suede, with a four-inch heel, one-inch platform, and a nice round toe. Available in taupe or black from Bakers for $109.

Two buckles? Not enough. How ‘bout three?

  These boots just scream fall, don’t they? Synthetic leather, three buckles, a smart heel and platform, fleece lining to keep your toesies warm... the Deppert is a keeper! Yours from Call it Spring for $70.
