Labor Day

Yay!  Labor Day!  Three days of freedom before all the fall craziness; one last gasp of summer.  (Though with the weather we’ve been having, who knows when it might actually feel like summer’s over?)

So today I give you one last summer hurrah: all the sandals you wanted to buy, but didn’t get a chance to yet!

I love these.  The Native Gladiator by Montego Bay is the quintessential gladiator, with eight different straps going every which way.  It has a three-quarter-inch wedge and if you look carefully in the photo, you can see the fun beaded zipper up the back.  Find them at Payless for $28.

This silhouette has been everywhere this summer, but the Hamil is the first time I’ve seen it in rainbow!  Rainbow, faux suede, shiny-ness… this sandal has it all.  If all the colors are too much, you have your choice of solids: blush, green, yellow fuchsia patent, shiny gold snake, or even a black and white print.  Your choice for $50 (many versions on sale for under $30!) from Steve Madden.

Eeee!  The Elmas by Bamboo is like raspberry and lime sorbet…shiny raspberry and lime sorbet.  And how perfect is that double bow?  Also available in all black with a white bow and all blue with a pink bow; your choice for $16 from DSW.

The Kadison by Joan and David is all giant rhinestones and metallic snake, but because of the simple color palette it’s actually quite elegant.  Also available in all silver or a turquoise combo—your choice for $90 from Macy’s.

So have a relaxing weekend, and enjoy the end of summer while we have it!

Go Red for Women

February is Go Red for Women month.  I know it might be a little early for most of to think about heart disease, but our hearts are too important to ignore.  (The American Heart Association has put together a guide to heart health for each stage in your life, by the way.)

While Wear Red Day was last Friday, that doesn’t mean you can’t paint the town red for the rest of February.  In the spirit of Go Red for Women, I give you a batch of saucy red shoes!

The Kennyya is a hot little bootie: five-inch wedge, 1.5-inch platform, almond-shaped peep toe, wide ankle strap and silver buckle... all in bright red suede!  (If you don’t like the red it’s also available in purple or black, or in blue, tan, or orange fabric.)  Find them at Steve Madden for $100.

So sweet!  The Odiana by Qupid is a red satin pump with a five-inch heel and ruffles up the back and snaking around the round toe.  Pick up a pair for $24 at your nearest Kmart.

The Mimosa by Not Rated has everything!  Polka dots!  Stripes!  Beautiful scalloped trim!  They have a 4.25-inch heel and a three-quarter-inch hidden platform, and also come in nude, blue, and black.  Yours from Zappos for $45.

The Chiffon Heel by ZiGiny is a cascade of chiffon leaves on a 4.75-inch heel and half-inch platform.  A leather sole and silk-satin upper round it out.  Available in red or black on Amazon for $90.

Love!  The Hunter by Bamboo is a faux-suede flat with a statement bow of shiny silver beads!  How adorable would these be under jeans?  And for $30 at Bare Feet Shoes, they’re a steal!

Heart disease is the #1 killer of women, so take care of yourselves, okay girls?  I mean it!  Check out Go Red for Women for more information and how to support this worthy cause.

Cheese and Honey Festival (Weather Permitting)

I love festivals. I love cheese. I love craft beer. I love honey. I love gardens (...that somebody else grows and I can just enjoy). I love restaurants in unexpected spaces. If you too love all of these things, have I got good news for you: Terrain at Styer’s in Glen Mills is having a cheese and honey festival this Saturday from noon until 4:00 PM! (Weather permitting, I’m assuming.)

Should the event go on, it will feature “tastings of local cheese, honey and craft beer, plus theme activities like backyard beekeeping demonstrations and lessons on pairing and plating cheese. Guests can also sample dishes from Terrain’s summer cookbooks.” This is win-win-win-win, people. If you’re planning on attending, you’ll need the right shoes. First up: the bees!

The Picnic Ready by Poetic License is just perfect: black and yellow round toe pumps, honeycomb pattern on the fabric upper, a flower to attract the bees, and woven straw around its three-inch wedge. Adorable! Find them on Zappos for $98.

Next up: the garden. Aren’t they darling? The Floral Print Cross Strap Wedge by Bamboo have a deep pink rose print on ivory straps (or black, your choice), a 5.25-inch cork wedge and platform, and summer attitude written all over them. Find them on Amazon for under $24.

Next up: the beer.

Whether you like your beer light or dark, the Tossups Pump by Audrey Brooke have you covered! A four-inch heel, one-inch platform, round peep toe with pointed cutouts... delicious. Also available in black suede/black patent and ivory leather/black patent; yours from DSW for $70.

Next up: the honey.

Liquid gold! And look at the honeycomb pattern! The Ashton Wedge by Etienne Aigner has a man-made upper, cushioned footbed, and a 2.75-inch golden wedge. Also available in patent croc prints in black or brown; find them at Macy’s for $69.

And, er, just in case:

These rainboots by Ranger have little bees all over them! Let them buzz into your heart for $29 from QC Supply. But really, everyone stay safe and dry this weekend, and we'll reconvene on Tuesday, shall we?
