Happy Easter!

Happy Easter, deputy shoe fairies!  Easter is another sure sign that spring is upon us.  Dress the part!  Here’s a selection of pastel shoes sure to match your Easter bonnet, and soothe your soul with the colors of spring.

The Finest by Nine West is so pretty in pink, isn’t it?  As pale as the palest rose—and adorned with jewels to boot!  Look at that collection of stones over the peep toe, sparkling just enough.  The platform is just over a quarter inch, and the heel is four inches.  Also available in black, blue, and white, but the pink is definitely the best.  Your choice for $99 from Macy’s.

Isn’t the mint shade of the Fauna by American Eagle so refreshing?  And that pretty lace, too—it’s so darling.  (And it’s lined in jersey with a padded insole, so it’s comfy too!)  Also available in cream, black, and a bright pink; your choice for $17 from Payless.

I got sunshine… on a cloudy day!  The Emmylou by Nina is so bright and sunshiny, isn’t it?  Like lemons and happiness.  It’s got a bow feature over the peep toe, an ankle strap, a half-inch platform and a 4.5-inch heel.  It’s also available in silver, ivory, navy, aqua, purple, fuchsia, coral and blush (…and red and yellow and green and brown and blue)—your choice for $50 from DSW.

I love the Vara by Salvatore Ferragamo.  The lavender is so lovely, and the combination of it with the patent leather is just mwah!  *Kissing fingertips gesture here.*  It’s got the signature Ferragamo shape, and a 1.25-inch heel, with a sweet little bow over the round toe.  Also available in navy, black, ivory, powder blue, and nude; your choice for $525 from Zappos Couture.

Happy Easter, everyone!

Sales this weekend:

Sorry ladies; I’m traveling this weekend.  I’ll be back next week with all the sales!

KoP Gets Even Bigger

Hold the phone…what’s this?  The King of Prussia Mall, the largest mall in the United States (you heard me, Mall of America), is expanding?  That’s right!  They’re building a connector between the Plaza and the Court, which will add 155,000 square feet to an already-enormous mall.  There will be a fancy food court…valet parking… 50 new stores and restaurants.  (Fifty?  How is that possible?)

There’s no list of new stores yet so I can’t say if there are any new shoe stores in the mix, but I do know that KoP is already a haven for shoe lovers.  You could go to Aldo…

This sweet little flat is the Zicia.  The vamp is made of ballerina-pink microfiber, capped at the pointed toe with metallic silver.  And look at the pretty silver bow at the toe too?  Could this get any more adorable?  Also available in black; on sale for $28 at Aldo.

…or Payless…

This is the Raven by Lower East Side.  While the wine suede outer isn’t quite marsala, it is in the same family.  (Mmmm…wine.)  I do love the slouchiness, and that little buckle around the back.  A zipper on the side lets you in.  Also available in black suede and black, gray, and brown faux leather; your choice for $35 at Payless.

…or Steve Madden…

The bright flowers-on-black motif on the Vincible is kind of sexy, don’t you think?  (Not to mention that 4.5 inch heel… looks taller than that.  Looks very, very tall.)  I also love the curved cut of the upper part of the vamp—it makes such a lovely shape.  Find them at Steve Madden for $100.

…or Salvatore Ferragamo…

This gorgeous sandal is made of snake print leather, delicate black lace…and feathers!  Look how nicely the feathers are arranged.  The heel is just shy of four inches, and a slender ankle strap keeps them on.  This is fun and sophisticated at the same time.  Yours for $1350 from Salvatore Ferragamo.

…or my favorite, DSW.

Oooooooh… pretty.  The Nakkita by Betsey Johnson almost looks like those iridescent butterflies, but made of teal and blue rhinestones of different sizes.  There’s a 4.75-inch heel and a half-inch platform, and a zipper up the back to let you in.  Find them at DSW for $130.

The expansion won’t be done until October 2016, but hey!  There’s still plenty of shopping to do until then!

Boot Season!

It’s officially fall.  It’s October.  It’s… boot season!!!  Tall boots, short boots, all boots under the sun: it’s your season to shine.

Problem: boots can be pricy.  They regularly cost $200 or more, and that’s not even luxury brands.  With an eye on your wallets, I give you a selection of boots all under $50.  At that price, you could get them all and be ready for the entire season!

Let’s start with a classic:

The Reina Riding Boot by Dexflex Comfort is a lovely classic silhouette, with just a touch of metal around the ankle.  The heel is one inch tall, and there’s a zipper on the inside and a stretch panel in the back for some give.  Oh, and there’s a memory-foam insole, people—memory foam!  Ugh, I want my feet in these rightnow.  (And PS, available in wide calf sizes too!  Yay!)  Available in this dark brown or black; your choice on sale for $50 from Payless.

The Fennel by Jellypop is a little more involved with buckles and straps—but it’s that split of fabric down by the outer ankle that just sells me on these.  I love that.  I have no words for how much I love that little split of fabric.  The heel is two inches high, and the shaft and circumference are both just over 14 inches.  Also available in black in addition to this taupe, but I just don’t like the black as much.  Find them at 6pm for $40.

Booties too, don’t forget!  The Breanne by Kelly & Katie is a quilted faux leather bootie with almond cap toe, zipper up the front, and three-inch heel.  It’s the quilting on this that makes it feel like fall to me—like I should be wrapped in a lovingly-made blanket in a cozy chair in front of a fire with a book and a mug of pumpkin tea.  (It’s not too early for that yet, is it?)  Yours for $50 from DSW.

I love a black and brown riding boot, and the Ralph by Nature Breeze delivers.  Plus it’s an over-the-knee boot for a little va va voom!  It’s got a 1.25 inch heel, buckle detail at the ankle, and a zipper halfway up the inside to assist you in getting in.  Find them at Overstock for $47.

Beauty and brains bring both boots and big bucks!  (Ha ha, I got started with like two Bs there and couldn’t stop myself.)  But really: with these inexpensive boots you can have it all this fall.

Sales this weekend:
Bakers: Buy one get one half off entire site
Bloomingdales: 20% off regular and sale with code FRIENDS

Labor Day

Ah, Labor Day—summer’s last gasp.  (Well, not really.  Summer technically goes through the end of September, and it can feel warm well into October.  But I digress.)  On the plus side, though, three day weekend!  So do all the summer things you’ve wanted to do, and get one last (hypothetical) wearing out of your sandals.  Sandals like these!

The Skylar by Material Girl is black, but still so fun!  The T-strap is covered in tiny rhinestones and is topped by a floppy chiffon bow, which is pulled towards the ankle by eight narrow straps…oh, and around the heel?  Black glitter!  Yay!  Also available in a really darling pink; your choice for $27 (on sale!) at Macy’s.

The York by Montego Bay Club is so sleek, with its white patent straps and three hammered gold discs up the front.  Like you should be wearing it on a Mediterranean cruise with a blue maxi dress or something.  Can’t you just see it?  Find them at Payless for $14.

Aah, a classic.  The Nantucket Gold by Jack Rogers has a leather upper in beautiful coral (or camel, black, navy, or turquoise), wrapped and detailed with gold whipstitching like tiny golden suns.  The rustic stacked heel clocks in at an inch.  Yours for $110 from Zappos.

The teal color of the Moreen by Mix No. 6 is so tropical, isn’t it?  Like a Caribbean beach!  The woven straps weave across the foot, and there’s a zipper up the back to let you in.  Also available in black and grey, but they’re actually pretty depressing compared to this gorgeous shade.  Find them at DSW for $30.

Looking at these pretty sandals makes me think we still have a whole lot of summer to enjoy them!

Summer Flats,Part II

I’ve been doing this blog three years, and you know my most popular post?  Summer Flats.  It’s got over twice as many hits as any other post.  I figured since summer is here again, I’d give you a second round of summer flats that are good for running around town in the shorts, going to the office with a skirt… anywhere!

The Tosha by DV8 by Dolce Vita is so bright and nautical!  The red bow on the slingback really makes it.  Perfect!  Also available in a polka-dotty print where some of the dots are winking at you (a little weird, granted, but also kind of cute); your choice for $39 at Macy’s.

I love gold for summer!  And the curvy shapes on the Choppy by American Eagle remind me of flower petals, or raindrops, or a flowing river…  The insole is padded, and it’s lined with jersey for extra comfy-ness.  Also available in red and black; your choice for $28 from Payless.

Stripes are hugely in this year, and the Royalli has plenty!  The canvas outer makes it cool, but the faux leather touches make it a little more sophisticated.  Don’t like the green?  (Though I can’t see why you wouldn’t—it looks so nice with the brown!)  It also comes in blue, black, and orange.  Yours for $59 from Nine West.

The Lumiere by Xhilaration is the silhouette of the season, but with the added touch of the straps.  Plus it’s in three colors: pink at the toe and up the T-strap, tan around the ankle and up the sides of the foot, and white at the heel.  Nice!  Also available in taupe and black; find them at Target for $22.

Aah, lace!  The Too Swirly by 2 Lips Too is an off-white flat that wraps your foot in lace embroidered with roses—gorg.  There’s lining at the pointed toe and the heel so it’s not completely sheer, but it’s sort of ethereal.  It’s got a three-quarter-inch heel so I guess it’s not technically a flat, but it’s close enough!  Also available in black and pink; your choice from 6pm for $35.

Here’s to another summer full of fun, functional flats!

Happy Easter!

Easter was always one of my favorite holidays as a kid.  Egg hunts and baskets aside, I was always in a fluffy dress of some kind, a kid-sized hat, and fancy shoes.  It’s a wonderful feeling, isn’t it?

You can still experience that feeling in a pair of these springy shoes!  And you’re a grown-up now, so really you can wear them all the time if you want.  And you can eat Easter candy for breakfast too.  Like a champ.

The Kasino by Christian Siriano is simplicity itself: a bright pink pointed-toe pump.  But the best part is the inside—see the pink and white diamond print?  So fun!!  It’s like a secret only you’ll know.  Also available in black and silver; your choice for $18 at Payless.

These pretty little flats are patterned with vibrantly drawn blue flowers.  The fabric outer is lined on the inside with leather, and the look is finished with a half-inch heel and quarter-inch platform.  Also available with pink flowers; take your pick for $118 from Brooks Brothers.

Eee, so girly!  The Iberis by Kate Spade is just spring embodied, with its yellow floral print and poofy bow.  The 3.5-inch wedge heel is a great space to showcase the bright blossoms, and the ankle strap adds sturdiness.  Pick them up at Lord & Taylor for $328.

The Bailey by Mojo Moxy is the perfect shade of springy green!  And the detailing—the scalloped edges, the teardrop cutouts, the ribbon tie, the little peep-toe, the charming shape of the four-inch heel.  (Also, the sole is shiny purple.  THE SOLE IS SHINY PURPLE, PEOPLE.)  Everywhere you look is something new to love.  Also available in nude or black, but neither compares to the blue.  Your choice for $50 from DSW.

This is Easter with an edge.  The Cythiaa is springy enough with its bright floral pattern, but the bootie shape and black lacing toughen it up a bit.  (Not everything needs to be of ducky-level fluffiness to qualify for Easter!)  The four-inch heel is topped with a zipper so you don’t actually have to bother with the laces.  Find them at Steve Madden for $110.

So happy Easter everyone, and happy belated Passover to my Jewish shoe fairies!

Black Friday

First of all: what are you doing reading this?  You should be out buying new shoes!!  It’s BLACK FRIDAY!!

I mean, hello.  Nice to see you.  I hope you had a happy Thanksgiving.  And so forth.

But Black Friday!  The day when the world is on sale.  You can buy any shoes you’d like, but for today, I give you shoes in honor of the name: black.  (And PS, the prices today are probably all lower than I have them here.  Hooray!)

I think the word for the Arabella by Christian Siriano is slinky.  I wouldn’t give that adjective to most wedges, but I think it definitely applies here.  The sleek pebble-print fabric; the gold lace-holders, the four-inch wedge... and the cut of the top is very interesting, the way it rises up especially high.  Also available in a smooth brown, but I don’t believe that one qualifies as slinky.  Regardless, they’re each $33 at Payless.

Why did nobody tell me Sam & Libby is making shoes for Target now?  How long has this been going on?!  Their Dahlia Spiked Heel is only one of the designers’ options available, but I love this one—from far away it looks like just another work shoe, but up close it’s all snake and spikes!  Badass.  Also available with pewter snake at the toe rather than black; your choice for $32 at Target.

Ooh, I am really digging the Thirst.  Mostly, I love the touches of gold—the little bit around the toe; the riveted plate around the ankle.  Even the zipper is gold!  Smart move.  And that dangly bit of fringe makes it a little fun, and not only sophisticated.  Find them at Bakers for $100.

How pretty is the My Fair Lacy by Mixx?  It’s got lace.  It’s got a pointed toe.  It’s got menswear-inspired detailing on the faux leather.  And they’d go with just about everything.  Love, love, love!  Yours for $35 at ModCloth.

Okay enough from me.  Go!  Shoo!  Come back with something pretty!

Sales this weekend:
Sorry ladies; the Shoe Fairy is away this week.  (We’ve discussed this.  I’m making pies and watching the dog show.)  But you don’t need me—everything’s on sale!

Frankenshoes

At Halloween, I am reminded of a story—a story of a man who thought he could improve on the human design, and sewed together parts of different people to create a new, superior creature.

The man was Dr. Victor Frankenstein.  I think we all remember how that turned out.

And yet, I keep seeing the same thing in shoe form.  Some designer, in a room somewhere, has a stroke of design genius (or just a stroke, I sometimes wonder), and the result is a shoe that honestly looks like it should be two different shoes.  Or three different shoes.  I christen these “Frankenshoes”: parts of many shoes sewn together to make a new, unnatural creature.  Take this one:

I see three different shoes in the Moya: an oxford (seen in the punched dot detail around the foot), a short boot (since the laces stop just above the ankle), and a tall boot.  But it’s got an air-cushioned insole, so at least you’ll be comfy while other people scratch their heads!  Yours from Dr. Martens for $157.

The Oruga is part Peter Pan boot, part moccasin, and, I don’t know, part fan boat, I think.  (Just look at the sole!  Definitely part fan boat.)  At least the yellow suede is very happy!  Find them at Camper for $150.

Okay, so the Sneek by Airwalk is definitely part sneaker and part wedge, but the thing that makes this a Frankenshoe for me is that it has both laces and one strap of Velcro across the front.  Why?  Why laces and Velcro?  How many different sneakers are we trying to make this be?!  Yours for $30 from Payless (and it’s BOGO time, so you can get another pair for half off while you’re there!).

But perhaps, like Frankenstein’s creature, these shoes are misunderstood and just want to be loved.  So if you ever come across a Frankenshoe, be kind to it.  It’s not its fault that the designer lost all sense.

Sales this weekend:
Aerosoles: Boot sale-- up to 25% off select boots
Bakers: 50% off almost all boots

Lord & Taylor: An extra 15% off regular and sale items with savings pass or code SAVEMORE

Labor Day

Yay!  Labor Day!  Three days of freedom before all the fall craziness; one last gasp of summer.  (Though with the weather we’ve been having, who knows when it might actually feel like summer’s over?)

So today I give you one last summer hurrah: all the sandals you wanted to buy, but didn’t get a chance to yet!

I love these.  The Native Gladiator by Montego Bay is the quintessential gladiator, with eight different straps going every which way.  It has a three-quarter-inch wedge and if you look carefully in the photo, you can see the fun beaded zipper up the back.  Find them at Payless for $28.

This silhouette has been everywhere this summer, but the Hamil is the first time I’ve seen it in rainbow!  Rainbow, faux suede, shiny-ness… this sandal has it all.  If all the colors are too much, you have your choice of solids: blush, green, yellow fuchsia patent, shiny gold snake, or even a black and white print.  Your choice for $50 (many versions on sale for under $30!) from Steve Madden.

Eeee!  The Elmas by Bamboo is like raspberry and lime sorbet…shiny raspberry and lime sorbet.  And how perfect is that double bow?  Also available in all black with a white bow and all blue with a pink bow; your choice for $16 from DSW.

The Kadison by Joan and David is all giant rhinestones and metallic snake, but because of the simple color palette it’s actually quite elegant.  Also available in all silver or a turquoise combo—your choice for $90 from Macy’s.

So have a relaxing weekend, and enjoy the end of summer while we have it!

Sales this weekend:

Lord & Taylor: 20% off regular and sale and 25% off clearance with code SHOP
Macy's: Take an extra 15% off with code DEALS

Dîner en Blanc

This Thursday is one of the hottest dinners in the city—Dîner en Blanc.  Thousands of people dressed in white, carrying white chairs, tables, and picnic baskets, all assemble at a secret location for the dinner of a lifetime.

Of course, white shoes are required (and glamorous ones to boot).  Here are some that fit the bill, if you’re lucky enough to have a ticket!

Aah, rhinestones!  The Glittering is a satin pump with a pointed toe and a 4.5-inch heel, but the heel is covered in rhinestones!  Round ones of varying sizes.  Also available in blue, pink, or black; your choice for $89 from Nine West.

The Roseanne by Lauren Ralph Lauren is a sleek leather wedge, with a swooping 3.5-inch heel, cork trim, and T-strap with silver buckle.  Also available in black, dark brown, pink, blue, lime, and yellow—all so summery!  Find them at Amazon for $49.

Okay, I’m not sure if the I37120 by Giuseppe Zanotti is technically allowed because of the black, but they were too cool not to include!  The chunky gold chain, the gold at the peep toe, the way the 4.5-inch heel is attached to the body… awesome.  Yours for $1295 from Zappos.

Or just a classic flat:

The Chelsea by Lower East Side is a simple, round toe flat.  You’ll need the white for Dîner en Blanc, of course, but it’s also available in turquoise or pink eyelet; silver, gold, or black glitter; or black, tan, or merlot patent leather.  Some very nice choices!  Find them at Payless for $18.

Whatever you wear, you’ll have a fabulous time!

Memorial Day

Happy Memorial Day!  We made it through winter and now we have a three-day weekend to celebrate!  Yes, it’s time to put away your coats, take out your skirts, wriggle your toes in the grass, go to the beach, and just kick back in your favorite way.

The official shoes of summer are sandals, of course.  If you pull them out of the closet and find your collection is lacking, here are some that might be worth adding!

You’ll need a gladiator, of course—how about the Fromeng?  Its criss-crossing straps are braided, studded with rhinestones (and a few spikes), and sewn with sequins.  The zipper is on the outside, which is a bit unusual, but it adds some more gold, which is always good.  Also available in black or white—the black is $40, but the other two are $30.  Find them all at Call it Spring.

The Mae by INC International Concepts is like the ruby slippers of sandals!  It has a faux leather sole and a satin upper topped at the toe with a big bow that’s positively covered in rhinestones.  Also available in black, champagne, or a really smart-looking navy; your choice for $45 from Macy’s.

How I love a bright blue for summer!  The Sawyer by American Eagle has a turquoise faux leather upper with lots of round studs, and a slightly cushioned footbed to keep you comfy!  Also available in black, white, and brown; yours for $15 at Payless.

Silver and rhinestones never go out of style.  The Issina is a fancy little sandal with metallic straps and rhinestone medallions up the front.  Dress it up, dress it down, and you’re good to go!  Also available in gold with gold jewels, or yellow, black, or emerald green with multi-colored jeweled medallions up the front—and all the color combos are different, depending on the color of the sandal!  Now that’s attention to detail.  (The green is especially lovely—majestic, really.)  Find them at Nine West for $79.

The bright colors!  The floral print!  The many tiny buckles!  The Aden by Impo has it all.  (Oh, and don’t worry, there’s a zipper up the back to let you in.  No need to fuss with the buckles!)  Find it at DSW for $40.

Happy sandals and happy summer, everyone!

Easter

So it may not feel completely like spring out there yet, but it’s time for Easter!  These shoes are sure to make up for any unspringiness that may accompany us this weekend.

The Lady Dragon IX by Vivienne Westwood Anglomania + Melissa is too cute: a jelly heel in mint green with a sculptural pink bow at the peep toe.  It also has a 3.5-inch heel and a slingback with a double pin closure.  If you’re not digging the green (how is that possible?) is also comes in pink with blue, orange with fuchsia, and black with white; your choice for $190 on Zappos.

The Cammy Mary Jane by Mojo Moxy is a surprisingly sexy Mary Jane—those three mint-green leather straps up the front and the four-inch heel sure help!  The body is a floral-print satin and ends in a round toe in the front.  Also available in a lighter floral print with cream-colored straps; take your pick for about $70 on Amazon.

The Kit Bow Pump by Fioni is a sweet floral print peep-toe pump topped with a bow and four-inch pink heel.  (It’s got a one-inch platform too, and also comes in solid black or solid tan.)  On sale for $20 from Payless, but hurry—the floral print is down to limited quantities!

The Antonella Wedge by Report is a 3.75-inch braided wedge, topped with a cheery floral print at the round toe and heel, and trimmed with teal around the toe and at the crisscross elastic straps.  Also available in black and white polka dots, navy and white stripes, and a navy floral, but the teal is just so cute!  Yours for $49 from Macy’s.

Hey, even if spring is taking its good sweet time to arrive, hurry it along with these springy shoes!
