Happy Easter!

Happy Easter, deputy shoe fairies!  Easter is another sure sign that spring is upon us.  Dress the part!  Here’s a selection of pastel shoes sure to match your Easter bonnet, and soothe your soul with the colors of spring.

The Finest by Nine West is so pretty in pink, isn’t it?  As pale as the palest rose—and adorned with jewels to boot!  Look at that collection of stones over the peep toe, sparkling just enough.  The platform is just over a quarter inch, and the heel is four inches.  Also available in black, blue, and white, but the pink is definitely the best.  Your choice for $99 from Macy’s.

Isn’t the mint shade of the Fauna by American Eagle so refreshing?  And that pretty lace, too—it’s so darling.  (And it’s lined in jersey with a padded insole, so it’s comfy too!)  Also available in cream, black, and a bright pink; your choice for $17 from Payless.

I got sunshine… on a cloudy day!  The Emmylou by Nina is so bright and sunshiny, isn’t it?  Like lemons and happiness.  It’s got a bow feature over the peep toe, an ankle strap, a half-inch platform and a 4.5-inch heel.  It’s also available in silver, ivory, navy, aqua, purple, fuchsia, coral and blush (…and red and yellow and green and brown and blue)—your choice for $50 from DSW.

I love the Vara by Salvatore Ferragamo.  The lavender is so lovely, and the combination of it with the patent leather is just mwah!  *Kissing fingertips gesture here.*  It’s got the signature Ferragamo shape, and a 1.25-inch heel, with a sweet little bow over the round toe.  Also available in navy, black, ivory, powder blue, and nude; your choice for $525 from Zappos Couture.

Happy Easter, everyone!

Black Friday

This is it, ladies: strap on your running shoes, and get ready for Black Friday!  Every shoe in the world must be on sale today, so if you’ve had your eye on something today may be the day to bring it home.

In the spirit of Black Friday, here are some festive black shoes that may serve you well in the upcoming party season.  (Note: these prices are all from earlier in the week.  I bet they’re cheaper now!)

I. LOVE. THESE.  The Cacy by Jessica Simpson is a gorgeous black glitter D’Orsay pump with a pointed toe, 4.5-inch heel, and HOLY COW WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT ANKLE STRAP.  It’s laser-cut lace!  This is just too beautiful.  It’s also available in plain black suede, but why would you choose that when you could choose glitter?!  Your choice from Nordstrom for $98.

Speaking of lace, how about the polka dot mesh on the Fracine by Nina?  It’s so delicate!  It’s sort of hard to see here, but on every one of those dots is a black rhinestone.  And how I love the floppy bow over the peep toe—it completes this shoe for me.  Its three-inch heel is very reasonable for a party shoe, and it can be yours for $99 from Lord & Taylor.

How about a bootie?  The Saffi2 by INC International Concepts is a suede peep toe bootie adorned with a smattering of multi-sized rhinestones.  These will sparkle on the dance floor, all right!  The heel is 4.25 inches high (with a quarter-inch platform too), and there’s a zipper up the back to let you in.  Also available in equally gorgeous (or even more gorgeous) shades of navy and blush; your choice for $130 from Macy’s.

Sexy and classy… the Jeweled Bow Patent Leather Pumps by Dolce & Gabbana is the little black dress of shoes.  Look at the gorgeous cut of the vamp, and the pointed toe, adorned with a grosgrain bow and rhinestones galore!  Ovals, pears, rounds… are sparkling in a cluster.  A 4.25-inch heel completes the look.  Find them at Saks Fifth Avenue for $795.

Ready, set… SHOP!

Sales this weekend:

Sorry ladies; I’m away this weekend so I can't scout out the sales for you.  But I'm pretty sure every shoe in the world is on sale today, so run amok!

Of Average Height

If anyone knows what women want, it’s Gilt, who provides us with sales on our favorite designers.  Using their knowledge of what we love, they did a big study on the average height of heels bought by shoe devotees in each state and Puerto Rico.

It’s Puerto Rico, actually, that comes in highest with an average heel height of 2.87 inches.  Florida and Nevada closely follow (I’m thinking Miami and Vegas?).  The state with the shortest average heel is Kansas (1.97 inches), followed by Nebraska and Maine.  Our beloved Pennsylvania clocks in on the low side, at just a smidge over two inches.  (See more about the results here.)  So sensible Pennsylvania girls, here’s a slew of two-inch heels just for you!

The Piri by Adrienne Vittadani is a gorgeous red patent leather peep toe pump with a 2.25-inch kitten heel.  And look at the many-tiered bow on the toe!  There’s just so much to love about this.  Also available in black and navy, but the red really shines.  Yours for $60 from DSW.

This classic boot is the Phaedra by Rockport.  The upper is full grain leather, with some elastic at the back for extra stretch.  A silver buckle around the back completes the look, along with the two-inch block heel.  Also available in a really lovely brown; your choice for $80 from 6pm.

I love a purple shoe, and the Crystah by Nina delivers!  (Though it also comes in apple green, yellow, black, ivory, navy, silver, and steel if purple is not your thing.)  This D’Orsay peep toe is topped with a lovely rhinestone feature made of round and pear stones, and the 2.25 inch heel put’s it right in Pennsylvania’s range.  Find them at Macy’s for $89.

Oh my goodness, how fun is the Chrissy by J. Renee?  The sparkly golden vamp is topped with a three-tiered bow, and the 2.25-inch wedge is wrapped in gleaming golden faux leather.  It’s so perfect for all the upcoming holiday parties I can’t even stand it.  And it also comes in taupe glitter, silver glitter, navy glitter, multi glitter with a pink wedge, beige patent, and black patent, so no matter what you’re planning to wear to your parties this year there’s one to match.  Your choice for $99 from Zappos.

So, two inches, Pennsylvania?  Here ya go!  Enjoy!

June Bride Week Part II

 Dear Shoe Fairy,

I am getting married next year and I am looking for teal, peep-toe heels that have an ankle strap. I wear a size 9 or 9.5, and can spend up to $100 (cheaper the better).  I am going to add peacock feathers to them. I'll try any height.  Maybe they’re more aqua than teal—something like these:

Can you help?

Catherine

Dear Catherine,

You bet I can help!  (And congratulations too, of course.)  This one already comes bedecked with peacock feathers:

And rhinestones too!  The Peacock Platform Sandal by Johnathan Kayne is beautiful blue satin, with folding details at the toe and on the ankle strap.  It’s got a 4.5-inch heel, but the 1.5-inch platform makes it feel like only three inches, which is eminently reasonable for a long day on your feet.  Size 9 comes in under $100 at $93, but the 9.5 is $122—find them both on Amazon.

Since your example photo was suede, I give you the Haylie by Besty Johnson.  The heel is sizable at 5.5 inches, but there’s a one-inch platform to help out.  (And the ankle strap will hold you in!)  These are just a smidge over your price range at $130, and you can find them at Heels.com.

If you want to have a hand in the shoes you wear, try the design-you-own feature from Nina.  Here I started with the Electra and just covered it in their teal blue luster satin.  Plus you get to pick what kind of sole you get—so I picked silver glitter for you, of course.  This heel is four inches, but there’s also a 3.25-inch version—each will run you $125 at Nina Shoes.

Response from Catherine:

Omg love them all!!!!!  Maybe I will change my shoes every hour.

Philly Wine Week

Drink up—it’s Philly Wine Week!  That’s right—Philly’s more than just beer.  Philly Wine Week’s eight days of events will grab you by the taste buds as you savor the range, diversity, quality and dedication of the world-class, wine-obsessed restaurants and bars in Philadelphia.  There are tastings, pairings, classes… no matter which kind is your favorite, there’s a glass for you.

Start with a red…

These burgundy beauties are the AK7Duvessa by Anne Klein.  A rich red fabric upper is studded with conical rhinestones and trimmed at the heel with patent leather.  It rests on a 1.25-inch wedge and a half-inch platform, and is also available in black—but the black isn’t as luminous as the wine.  Your choice for $25 from 6pm.

…or maybe a white?...

The gold satin of the Culver by Nina is reminiscent of a nice chardonnay, isn’t it?  Or a Riesling?  Maybe a sauvignon… whichever you’re thirsty for, these are your shoes.  Satin fabric twists around the toe, and a two-inch kitten heel completes the look.  Also available in twelve (that’s right, a full dozen) other color choices…take your pick for $79 from Shoes.com.

Perhaps rosé is your favorite:

Ooh, a couple of different shades of rosé in the Hariette by Ted Baker!  There’s a lighter pink on the back and ankle strap, and a darker pink on the pointed toe and the four-inch heel.  There are also touches of metallic gold at the tip of the toe and at the bottom of the heel—very nice.  Also available in yellow; find them at Zappos for $185.

Can’t decide?  Stay home in these cozy slippers and have one of each:

Look at that bunch of grapes!  Adorable.  There’s even a scattering of grapes on the other slipper, over by the wine.  These clog-style slippers have a boiled wool outer and a sock liner that conforms to your foot, all comfy-like.  Yours for $45 from Plow & Hearth.

Philly Wine Week runs through Sunday, so raise your glass to this new event and go out for a drink!

Super Bowl

This NFL isn’t going to let a little thing like a northern winter stop them from holding the Super Bowl this weekend!  Now NFL fans the country over will get a sense of what our Januarys are like.  Every single year.  Cold and bleak.  So very cold.

We have two out of town teams coming in.  The first is the Seattle Seahawks, the only NFL franchise in the Pacific Northwest.  Their colors are college navy…

The Skull Flat by Alexander McQueen is this fall’s hottest silhouette, with a subtle edge: the sequined skull on the front!  Ooh, me likey.  It also comes in black, but the blue is more fun!  Find them at Nordstrom for $645.

…action green…

The Evelixa by Nina is the bright action green of the Seahawks!  It’s a classic satin peep toe pump, but there’s a ribbon ruffled across the toe, which gives it just a touch of party.  It has a 3.5-inch heel and a half-inch platform, and is also available in red, navy, white, grape, and black.  The grape is fun!  But take your pick—they’re $54 at 6pm.

…and wolf grey.

The Tonal Fur Wrap Boot by Muk Luks is a boot-like slipper covered in gray fur… wolf indeed!  How cozy would these be just around the house?  Better than sitting outside at the Meadowlands, definitely!  Also available in brown, but I have to say, the brown is kind of ugly.  Stick with the gray.  Yours for $16 from Wal-Mart.

The Seahawks playing the Denver Broncos, whose colors are Broncos orange…

Ooh, I like these.  The Neevo by Ted Baker is a beautiful suede pump with a pointed toe, four-inch heel, and touches of gold everywhere!  See the little band at the bottom of the heel?  At the tippy-tip of the toe?  And the whole sole is gold too!  Also available in two other equally beautiful options (pink and purple)—your choice for $120 from Zappos.

…Broncos navy…

The Nikita by Fergie may have a simple silhouette, but the shiny patent leather and touch of silver metal at the four-inch wedge make it a little unexpected.  It also comes in black with silver, and a really lovely burgundy with gold—find them all at Shoebuy for $57.

…and white.

Okay, I just love these.  The Thora Evening Pumps by Badgley Mischka may look simple, but that flower… that flower!  It’s so sculptural.  It’s like pages in a book.  I am fascinated by this flower.  The heel is 3.25 inches high, and is available in a light pink in addition to the white.  Yours for $195 from Macy’s.

So wear your team colors and let’s hope the people in north Jersey don’t freeze on Sunday!

In Bloom

What a beautiful week we had!  It’s going to be a little cooler this weekend, but all the better to enjoy the Cherry Blossom Festival.  Events have been going on for a while already, but the big day is this weekend: Sakura Sunday.  The centerpiece event of the festival, Sakura Sunday is a celebration of all things Japanese.  Opening ceremonies get things started at 10:30 AM, giving way to a full slate of activities including drum performances, tea ceremonies, origami, and more.

The real stars, however, are the flowers!  Dainty pink blossoms, like these:

God, I love this.  The Easton by Audrey Brooke may look like a simple peep-toe pump, but it’s the details that count: the flower (of course), but also the 4.25-inch heel (spiky!), and the unusual cut of the upper part of the vamp.  Look how it cuts in to meet the toe piece—dangerous curves ahead!  Also available in silver or ivory; your choice for $70 on DSW.

The Nelson is such a sweet little flip flop with a jelly upper (adorned with a flower, of course!).  Available in white, yellow, and blue if you don’t like the pink (but who wouldn’t like the pink?)—find them at Nine West for $40.  Whole sizes only, and it runs small, so order up!

The Adele by Badgley Mischka is a breath of fresh air—imagine those petals up the front rustling in the breeze!  Lovely.  It has a 4.75-inch heel and is also available in white; find them at Shoes.com for $235.

The Galene by Nina is a sophisticated-yet-fun wedge sandal with a rubber (cool!) 3.5-inch heel and three-quarter-inch wedge, and an upper completely covered in pink flowers!  Also available in two other really lovely colors (a buttercream yellow and a lilac… gorg!); yours for $40 from Zappos.

These are awfully pretty, but they don’t compare to the real thing, so head on over to Fairmount Park and get your flower on!

Don't forget: April 28 is Philly Shoe Fairy's second birthday party!  Woo hoo!  The DSW in King of Prussia is opening early especially for PSF readers, and I hope to meet you then.  Drop me a line of you can come so I can be sure to have enough food!

Sick Day

I’m home on a sick day, I’m afraid, so pardon the short post. Today for me it’s just orange juice...

The Bertolino by Enzo Angiolini is a beautiful orange leather flat with a chic little bow at the round toe.  Also available in yellow, pink, green, or blue leather or ivory or black/white zigzag fabric; your pick for $99 from Zappos.

...tissues...

The Brynn by Nina is a sweet little pump with cascades of ribbon across its pointed toe.  Also available in orchid, navy, purple, black, and blue; your choice for $42 on 6pm.

...and fuzzy slippers.

Cupcakes! I wish I had some of those.  These adorable slippers from Snoozies are brushed fleece on the outside and cozy Sherpa fleece on the inside, and are available in a ton of color and pattern choices. Yours for $12 or so from Amazon.

Firebird Festival

Looking for something to do this weekend?  One of my favorite local festivals is going on: the Phoenixville Firebird Festival!  What’s not to love about a day of dance, music, art, and parades, followed by the burning of a three-story wooden bird in honor of the town’s name?  As one of my friends would say, that’s just awesomesauce.

In honor of the awesomeness, I give you shoes that sparkle and swirl like flames in the night!

The Arden by Promiscuous has so much going on—the rhinestones, of course, but also the curving shape of the upper, and the unusual heel.  See it on the back shoe in the picture, the cutout?  The bottom zigs all the way back in to meet the ball of the foot.  It’s nuts.  It’s got a six-inch heel and 1.75-inch platform, and is available in black or red from Zappos for $81.

I love the upper on the Sublime by Two Lips—it really evokes the feeling of the phoenix’s wings, doesn’t it?  It’s studded with gunmetal rhinestones on the upper and on the 4.25-inch heel, and a zipper up the back lets you in.  Available in black or red; your choice for $63 from 6pm.

The Fern by Nina has a glitter fabric d’Orsay upper, slender 3.25-inch heel, peep toe, and an air of simple elegance.  Also available in black, bronze, grape (which is KICKIN’, by the way), navy, and pewter—your choice from Shoes.com for $79.

The Beccalyn by Enzo Angiolini are fabulous for so many reasons.  One, the rhinestones all over the 1.5-inch platform.  Two, the rhinestones all over the 4.5-inch heel.  Three, the swirly shape of the rhinestones up the back, like sparks swirling up from the phoenix aflame.  And four, THERE ARE RHINESTONES ON THE SOLERhinestones on the sole!!  I’m in love.  If you agree, pick up a pair in red, dark pink, or dark purple for $120 from 6pm.

Come on down to Phoenixville for the Firebird FestivalActivities begin at 3:30 PM and continue on until the burning of the bird at 8:00 PM.  There will be flamenco, belly dancing, puppets, storytelling... something for everybody.  Come on down!

Brighten Up!

I had a special request from my lovely future sister-in-law for some neon heels, which you must’ve seen in stores lately—neon is back!  And what better way to do this trend and not look too ‘80s than with a beautiful pair of shoes?  Caveat: many of these shoes are on heels four inches or higher.  Meg charged me to find neon pumps that were three inches or under, and while this one was a bit of a challenge, I am happy to report that I was able to find some!

We’ll start with a yellow:

The Indulge by Qupid is a yellow velvet peep-toe pump with a three-inch, cone-shaped stack heel.  I like the silver on the inside!  Also available in a lime green; yours for $20 from Sears.

Maybe a turquoise?

The Ariana by Sacha London is a bright blue suede upper, pointed toe, slingback with gold buckle, and dainty 2.75-inch heel.  It’s also available in olive, beige, black, and fuchsia suedes, or nude or black patent leathers.  Find them at Endless for $115.

Pink, of course:

The MK Flex Low Pump by Michael Michael Kors is a pointed toe, patent leather pump with a little sliver detail at the back.  It has a two-inch heel, also comes in black or nude, and is currently on sale at Zappos for $88 (or on sale at 6pm for $55 if you’re a 6-9).

Though I prefer my pink with a bow:

LOVE!  The Janice by Via Spiga is another pointed toe, patent leather pump, but the toe of this one has a little cut out and a bow!  This is on a 2.25-inch heel, and can be found at Zappos for $139.

Perhaps a bright green:

This satin beauty is the Criana by Nina.  It has diagonal pleats around its almond-shaped peep-toe, and a 2.5-inch heel, and comes in ivory, black, navy, and canary in addition to the apple green shown here.  Yours for $71 from Endless.

A rainbow of pink, orange, yellow, and green!  On 3.5-inch silver stilettos.  Yes, that’s a half-inch taller than I was looking for, but they’re cheap: only $30 for the color of your choice from Light in the Box.

And really, how better to enjoy the nice weather than in a pair of bright, happy shoes?  Smile on, ladies!

Ask the Shoe Fairy

Philly Shoe Fairy:

I’m going wedding shoe shopping—what should I get???!!!  Looking at a high heel, budget is between $100 and $200.  Something with detail.  J  Love beads, love lace—delicate things.  Hate chunky looking add-ons.  Between three and four inches high is probably best.  Champagne is my color, but I can do dyeable.  Shoe size varies...7.5 to 8.

Lindsay

Dear Lindsay,

Congratulations!  Thank you for the photo of your dress (I promise to keep it top secret!).  It was helpful when I picked out shoes — for instance, these have floral beading similar to that on the side of your dress:

The Sadi by Nina is somehow simple and elaborate at the same time—delicate sequined and beaded flowers on ivory satin.  It has a five-inch heel, but it has a one-inch platform, so it’ll only feel like four!  (It was just too beautiful; I had to include it.)  Find them at Macy’s for $129.

Your dress also has some lace, which reminded me of these:

The Astrid by Caparros may be a little difficult to see in this photo, with everything being ivory and all, but it has an upper made of delicate floral lace, scalloped at the edge around the foot.  It’s a slingback with a four-inch heel and three-quarter inch platform, and also comes in a taupe which might work with your dress if the ivory is still a little too light.  Find them at Zappos for $79.

One more!  I thought a soft gold shoe would work with your dress as well:

The Pretty by RSVP is pretty indeed!  This D’Orsay pump has a soft gold satin upper that is gathered at its peep toe and topped with an oval rhinestone detail.  It has a three-inch heel, and can be found at Zappos for $79.

Whichever pair you choose, I know you’ll be radiant!

Happy Birthday, Philly Shoe Fairy!

Yesterday was Philly Shoe Fairy’s first birthday!  I certainly didn’t think when I put up my first post last May that I’d go for a year—yet here we are!  This calls for a celebration.  There is a party on Sunday, of course (you’re invited!  come shopping with us!), but why not wear some celebratory shoes too?  Come on, these just look like a party!

The Colby by Kate Spade is just the happiest shoe—look at the curling ribbon/confetti feature on the toe!  It makes me think of balloons and birthday cake and party hats and joy.  It has a four-inch heel and slingback, and also comes in all gold—but the colors are just too fun.  Yours for $245 on Zappos Couture.

The Corvala by Nina is so fun!  A body of shimmery fabric, netting, feathers, jewels... what’s not to love?  It also has a four-inch heel, peep-toe, and ankle strap, and can be found at DSW for $60.  (We’ll be at DSW on Sunday, so look for them then!  Or if you order online, you get $5 off one pair, $10 off two pairs, and $20 off three pairs, now until Monday!)

Sequin explosion!  The Sydney by Xhilaration is a closed-toe pump just covered in gold (or black) sequins, and has a 4.75-inch stiletto and 1.5-inch heel.  Find them for $30 from Target.

The Mergel is so springy!  A bright pink sandal with ruching at the toe and a big bow at the ankle over a 3.5-inch heel... a zipper up the back lets you in.  Also available in black or white; pick them up at Call it Spring for $50.

The Jewel-Heel Glitter Platform Sandal by Miu Miu has so many wonderful things: silver glitter, gold trim, but look at the heel!  It’s four and a half inches high, clear, and embedded with rhinestones!  Awesome!!  If you agree, head over to Neiman Marcus and pick up a pair for $990.

So I’ll hope to see you on Sunday, but even if I don’t, be sure to wear a fabulous pair of shoes this weekend anyway, just for fun!
